Presenter Karen Dobeli: Radiographer research and service improvement lead at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Karen Dobeli

This presentation provides an overview of relevant anatomy, clinical indications, CT techniques and terminology seen in radiology reports for high resolution CT of the chest (HRCT).

Karen prior to her current role, she spent over 25 years as the radiographer team leader in CT. She completed her undergraduate training at Queensland University of Technology at around the dawn of time, and later completed a Masters and PhD in CT at the University of Sydney. In her spare time, Karen likes to be outdoors kayaking, cycling, camping and fishing. She also plays the bagpipes, which she enjoys but maybe not the neighbours.

  1. Describe the gross anatomy of the bronchial tree and relationships between the airways and the interstitium
  2. Explain the scan acquisition and image reconstruction factors to optimise spatial resolution for HRCT, as well as indications for additional scan acquisitions
  3. Understand common terminology used to describe findings on HRCT
