- Chronic rhinosinusitis is a clinical diagnosis and is defined as rhinosinusitis lasting >12 weeks that includes two or more of the following signs and symptoms:
- Mucopurulent drainage (anterior, posterior, or both)
- Nasal obstruction (congestion)
- Facial pain-pressure-fullness, or
- Decreased sense of smell
- Plain radiography has limited value for imaging the paranasal sinuses and routine use is not indicated
- CT without IV contrast is the imaging modality of choice
- Significant unilateral disease is suspicious for neoplasm or inverted papilloma and warrants further evaluation
