IMPACT - Imaging Mammographic Proficiency and Clinical Technique was originally a 3 day on site clinical and educational workshop initially driven and co-lead by Don Kelly, Director RAB, to improve the technique, proficiency and quality of mammography with partner nations.
As with many of our projects, our first educational mission to Samoa in March 2020 was cancelled due to Covid 19. Breast cancer is an important health issue, but unfortunately, many developing nations do not benefit from early detection availed by breast screening programs. As such, these women present with later stage disease and significantly reduced 10 year survival rates compared to those women in developed nations.
Our objective is to provide upskilling in mammographic technique and interpretation to aid diagnosis.
This year’s virtual IMPACT conference is a condensed version and an introduction to Breast Imaging, with a goal to expand on topics next year. The event will offer clinical approaches relevant to both the technologist and radiologist, whilst introducing case management and problem solving tools to participants.
